For pharmacy benefit managers (PBMs) like Prime Therapeutics (Prime), software reliability is critical. Testing is essential to make sure applications work as intended and remain secure, which helps Prime deliver a reliable user experience for clients and the millions of members who rely on its products to receive medications they need. Testing also helps maintain quality, compliance and performance to help mitigate risk.

Prime is honored to announce its information technology (IT) department’s Quality Excellence Center (QEC), together with Infosys, received the North American Software Testing Award (NASTA) for Best Functional Test Automation Project.

The winning project was QEC's Test Automation Prescription (TARx) 3.0 — an automation framework designed to make software testing faster, smarter and more reliable. TARx uses artificial intelligence (AI) technology to automate the process that checks that systems work as intended, reducing reliance on manual processes. This translates to consistent system performance, quicker updates and a stronger foundation for delivering safe, high-quality pharmacy solutions.

“TARx 3.0 has evolved our systems, enabling us to be more strategic and deliver better performance to support our technology estate,” said Curt Highet, senior director, QEC. “Not only are we able to deliver faster, high-quality software at lower cost, but we’ve also built a self-service portal that supports growth now and in the future.”

What makes TARx 3.0 unique?

  • Integrated technology. The system uses multiple integrated tools to automate up to 90% of critical software testing scenarios, reducing manual processes.
  • Improved speed and scale. The system enables standard software processes that have cut testing time by more than 50%, based on internal data.
  • Cost savings. The framework delivers cost savings compared to manual processes, while improving confidence in software releases and reducing potential defects.
  • Future-ready design. The system is also scalable and adaptable, further positioning Prime as a leader in intelligent engineering.
  • Low-maintenance efforts. The TARx framework requires low-maintenance efforts, unlike other frameworks that undergo many changes.

"TARx is our digital quality backbone, enabling high-quality PBM implementations," said Shiva Bv, IT manager, QEC. "As QE manager, I’m proud of TARx 3.0 as a critical component of our AI strategy, and grateful to everyone involved in its development."
