Psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis
Psoriasis is a condition that causes inflammation in the body, which may result in visible signs like raised plaques or scales on the skin. This inflammation may also impact other organs or body tissues. The appearance of symptoms can start at any age but often occur between the ages of 15 and 25. Psoriatic arthritis, caused by psoriasis, is an inflammatory disease of the joints and where the tendons and ligaments connect to the bone (entheses). It is a chronic condition that can start at any age and may affect children; however, it typically appears between 30 and 50 years of age. Treatments are available to decrease pain, protect your joints and preserve range of motion while stopping the disease progression. Early diagnosis and treatment may help limit joint damage.
