How Prime’s IntegratedRx® helps payers manage high-cost cystic fibrosis drugs by reducing handoffs and speeding access to therapy

Prime’s IntegratedRx® – Cystic Fibrosis model earns a 94% member satisfaction rate

About 40,000 adults and children in the United States live with cystic fibrosis, a condition caused by a mutation in the cystic fibrosis transmembrane conductance regulator (CFTR) gene that impacts the lungs and digestive system. Nearly half of people with the condition have had to delay or forego care altogether, most often because of high treatment costs.

Prime Therapeutics (Prime) medical and pharmacy claims data show cystic fibrosis drugs are among the 10 most expensive therapy categories. Some of the latest treatments cost $300,000 or more annually.

“Cystic fibrosis therapies are among the most expensive medications on the market, and for many families and plan sponsors the costs can be staggering,” said Steve Cutts, chief clinical and specialty officer at Prime. “At Prime, we’re committed to managing drug prices and protecting access to the therapies members depend on — from smarter clinical management to more transparent pricing. Our goal is to make treatment affordable and accessible.”

How Prime’s integrated support simplifies treatment journey, drives savings

Prime simplifies the patient experience through its award-winning offering, IntegratedRx®, which helps keep pharmacists and providers aligned as part of a cohesive care team. IntegratedRx, which recently achieved more than $100 million in savings for payers who manage treatment costs for cancer and cystic fibrosis patients, creates more direct lines of communication, creating an overall better member and provider experience. IntegratedRx – Cystic Fibrosis specifically drives more than $26,000 in annual savings per utilizing member, according to 2025 Prime data, and it delivers a 12.4% better discount on the average wholesale price (AWP) of a brand-name drug compared to using a central-fill service. Ninety-four percent of utilizing members are satisfied or very satisfied with their experience, according to Prime's most recent data.

“What sets Prime apart from other major PBMs is that we allow patients with cystic fibrosis to get their medications at their care centers which helps unlock value for them and our plan sponsors,” said Jason Graveline, senior product director. “With IntegratedRx, we bring the patient, the specialty pharmacy and the provider into one coordinated model, so we can help remove friction in access, align to evidence-based therapy and proactively solve issues that drive unnecessary cost.”
