The 20th annual Specialty Summit hosted by Prime Therapeutics (Prime) and Magellan Rx Management (Magellan Rx) returned to New York City last month. More than 500 nationally recognized payers, pharmaceutical manufacturers, oncologists and pharmacy industry thought leaders came to connect on the hottest topics and opportunities in the specialty drug management space and beyond.

From industry-leading insights and innovative content to dazzling networking events and live music, we aimed high and delivered the most amazing conference yet. Our two-day, jam-packed agenda featured presentations and panel discussions curated to inspire creativity and innovation on some of the most pressing challenges in health care.

Incredible speakers

Sekou Andrews, award-winning poet, delivered an engaging and dynamic keynote that brought many in the audience to their feet with his dramatic and humorous performance on embracing failure and encouraging unconventional thinking. And author and women’s health advocate Tamika Felder of Cervivor.org shared her poignant perspective on survival and the patient journey. Felder moved and motivated the crowd with her remarkable story of hope and strength, and her unwavering commitment to building and making a difference in the survivor community.

Diving deeper into specific categories, Simone Ndujiuba, director of strategy & innovation, shared her insights into the current and future oncology pipeline Brian MacDonald, senior director, clinical strategy & innovation, and Katie Lockhart, senior manager, trend & forecasting analytics, deftly guided attendees through the latest specialty pipeline and insights on the impact of drugs coming to market.

Expert panel discussions

Industry experts joined us for several lively discussions. Panelists from Excellus Blue Cross Blue Shield, Medica, Group Health Cooperative of South Central Wisconsin, Independent Health, Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey, Novartis Pharmaceuticals, CSL Behring, Avation Medical and Canary Speech debated industry challenges and the continuing evolution of care delivery. Sessions were focused on scaling for rare diseases, managing cell and gene therapies, the impacts of biosimilars and overcoming barriers in healthcare transformation; through expert insights and real-word examples, attendees walked away with action-oriented solutions for better management strategies and patient care.

Fabulous Networking Events

While the sessions this year were unmatched, networking with industry colleagues and friends tied the Summit together. Hundreds of attendees connected at our kickoff Late Night Sip and Bite event. After a full day of enriching content, the Tuesday evening event at Rainbow Room was a glamourous highlight featuring live music, fantastic food and fabulous views from one of the highest, most scenic venues in the city.
