Prime Together Foundation supports Casa Esperanza, New Mexico’s House of Hope
Grant helps provide a home away from home for families facing cancer
March 9, 2023
The Prime Together Foundation awarded a grant to Casa Esperanza, New Mexico’s House of Hope. Casa Esperanza provides comfortable housing and emotional support for patients and their families who reside temporarily in Albuquerque, N.M. while the patient receives medical treatment. The home includes 28 patient rooms thoughtfully appointed for families facing treatment for cancer, kidney disease, high risk pregnancy and other serious illnesses.
Casa Esperanza understands that traveling for medical treatment may cause additional emotional and financial strain on families. To help alleviate these burdens, Casa Esperanza’s Family Care Team works with its families to provide additional resources including community dinners, family food boxes, transportation to medical appointments and more. The team includes bilingual program staff, and they work to identify and address implicit bias that could hinder patient-provider interactions and communication.
“Our Family Care Team is the hub of the house,” said Chrisann Gray, executive director for Casa Esperanza. “The invaluable support they provide reduces the burden of illness and allows patients and their families to focus on the healing journey. The Prime Together Foundation’s financial support helps us enrich whole person health by meeting social needs beyond a welcoming home.”
Casa Esperanza will use the Foundation grant to support programming that improves outcomes for patients who may otherwise delay or forgo treatment. The grant will support free or low-cost housing as well as the home’s wraparound supports.
Gray added, “Casa Esperanza serves families from all backgrounds and income levels, but they all share the fear and emotional upheaval a serious illness creates. Staying at Casa Esperanza helps to alleviate this stress by providing an array of wraparound services. This holistic care improves the quality of a patient’s life and their emotional and physical well-being.”
Casa Esperanza has helped more than 45,000 families in over 30 years. They rely on community volunteerism and giving to keep Casa Esperanza running.
Prime encourages its employees to offer volunteer support to the Foundation’s grant partners and nominate other nonprofits working to combat inequalities and injustice for future grant opportunities.
For 2022 giving cycle, the Prime Together Foundation awarded $170,000 in grants to 13 nonprofit organizations across the United States.
