Matthew Mertel

As senior vice president and chief operating officer, Matthew Mertel is responsible for the IT and shared operational functions for both sides of the enterprise, including day-to-day PBM, clinical and contact center operations, operational planning and delivery.

Mertel served nine years with Magellan Rx, holding several executive-level positions. Most recently, Mertel served as Magellan Rx chief operating and technology officer. Leading a combined team comprised of core business operations and IT functions. Mertel and his team focused on aligning and unifying business objectives and operational capabilities with IT expertise and capabilities. Prior to that, he was senior vice president and general manager of the employer market responsible for setting the strategic vision and sustained growth within the segment.

Before joining Magellan Rx, Mertel was a management consultant for Cap Gemini Ernst & Young where his responsibilities included identifying, planning and executing information technology-driven business strategies for health care companies.

Mertel earned a Master of Business Administration with honors from the University of Chicago, Booth School of Business, and his Bachelor of Science in business administration from the University of Arizona, where he graduated Magna Cum Laude with University Honors.
