The City of Bloomington Public Health Division used a social media campaign to raise awareness of the laws surrounding breastfeeding in the workplace. As part of the campaign, people were asked to nominate Bloomington businesses that are doing a great job of supporting their employees to continue providing breast milk to their baby after returning to work.
“At Prime, we value all employees and do our best to make their time at our facilities a positive one,” said Lauren Mitrenga, human resources analyst at Prime. “We take great pride that 98 percent of women that take maternity leaves transition back into work – and we attribute much of that to the culture we have built to support working mothers.”
Prime has had a lactation policy in effect for nearly a decade. This policy allows for reasonable lactation breaks, and supplies lactation rooms that are private, accessible and convenient for working mothers. Generous paid leave policies and emergency back-up care are other benefits Prime has to support employees and their families.
Mitrenga joined eight other Bloomington-based organizations at the Bloomington City Council meeting on Aug. 5 to accept the award.
