Medication therapy management internship

Get hands-on pharmacy experience and develop leadership, strategic-planning and patient care skills with our Medication Therapy Management and Case/Care Management (MTM/CCM) Department.

Overview

Become a full member of our MTM/CCM team

In our four-year internship program, you’ll have the opportunity to:

      • Develop patient outreach skills in a telepharmacy setting
      • Counsel patients about common health conditions such as diabetes, hypertension and high cholesterol, under the direction of a licensed preceptor
      • Understand the functions of a pharmacy benefits manager (PBM) and the role pharmacists play at Prime
      • Explore different departments within Prime to further determine areas of interest
      • Enhance leadership, strategic planning and patient care skills
Year 1: Become familiar with the MTM/CCM department and obtain the necessary experience to make Smart Adherence (SA) calls
  • Successfully complete new hire orientation
  • Complete training to gain competency in SA, RxClaims and MSA Toolbox
  • Attend Prime intern activities, such as volunteer opportunities and intern Lunch and Learns
  • Perform SA calls to help the team complete their weekly campaign goals
  • Transfer to pharmacists any calls that require advanced clinical knowledge
  • Participate in quality assurance measures through reviewing pharmacist/intern call notes
  • Help members improve adherence by faxing information to their health care providers
  • Host a Lunch and Learn for the team
  • Prepare progress reports to be discussed with pharmacist preceptors during performance reviews
  • Complete an intern project before the end of summer
Year 2: Enhance MTM/CCM skills
  • Participate in clinical discussions with members through SA calls
  • Assist with strategy to improve the MTM/CCM department’s efficiency
  • Contribute to administration functions, such as scheduling and data tracking
  • Attend meetings with senior leadership and preceptors as available
  • Host a Lunch and Learn for the team
  • Prepare progress reports to be discussed with pharmacist preceptors during performance reviews
  • Complete an intern project before the end of summer
Year 3: Improve leadership and clinical skills by working closely with senior leaders and conducting comprehensive medication reviews (CMRs)
  • Perform CMRs with members, providers or long-term care facilities, create updated medication lists and uncover drug therapy problems on a case by case basis
  • Participate in journal clubs about upcoming drug trends or topics
  • Host a Lunch and Learn for the team
  • Prepare progress reports to be discussed with pharmacist preceptors during performance reviews
  • Complete an intern project before the end of summer
Year 4: Apply all learned skills to improve operations of the MTM/CCM department based on your availability
  • Contribute to weekly strategy, operations and reporting meetings
  • Complete all department responsibilities at a pharmacist’s level under the supervision of a preceptor
