Having a heart for heart health: Prime Therapeutics recognizes American Heart Month

Observed in February, American Heart Month raises awareness about heart disease, the leading cause of death in the United States. Here’s how Prime supports initiatives to prevent heart disease and promote better overall health.

American Heart Association

For many years, Prime Therapeutics (Prime) has proudly supported the American Heart Association (AHA) as one of its five charity partners — a relationship grounded in a shared commitment to improving heart health and strengthening communities. Through fundraising, volunteering and participating in events such as the AHA’s annual Heart Walk, Prime employees from across the country give back from the heart, for the heart.

“When we invest in heart-healthy initiatives, we invest in our people,” said Erin Feigal, chief human resources officer at Prime. “Heart disease touches nearly every family, and prevention starts with awareness, access and everyday choices. I’m proud and impressed in how our teams show up — walking, volunteering and giving. Every step we take together strengthens our health and the health of the communities we serve.”

Through PrimeCares, the company’s employee giving and service program, Prime employees have raised more than $16,400 last year for the AHA. The AHA is a nonprofit organization that funds research, education and advocacy on heart disease and stroke, offering cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) training and materials to promote healthy living.

“Heart disease has deeply shaped my family’s story, and supporting awareness, research and education helps create hope for those who will come after us,” said Courtney Giese, senior business integration consultant at Prime. “I’m grateful to work for a company that encourages and empowers its employees to give back to causes that matter on a personal level.”

Prime’s heartfelt support for the Heart Walk

The Heart Walk is the AHA’s annual, family-friendly fundraising event. Through PrimeCares, employees can join Heart Walk teams in any of their locations across the nation. In the Twin Cities, Minnesota, where Prime is based, the Heart Walk will take place on Saturday, May 30.

For many, participation in the Heart Walk is personal. Joanne Nuccio, client solution enablement analyst at Prime, has previously participated in Chicago Heart Walk. “These types of camaraderie-building events are well worth it,” she said. “You’re helping others by raising awareness, and you will likely get a lot out of it, too.”

Honoring American Heart Month

February’s American Heart Month serves as a powerful reminder of the importance of cardiovascular health — including eating a healthy diet, getting proper sleep, exercising, avoiding smoking and tobacco, managing stress and receiving regular health screenings. The awareness month kicks off on Friday, Feb. 6 with National Wear Red Day, when participants wear red, light buildings red, support Go Red for Women initiatives — which “empower women to take charge of their heart health,” according to the organization — and share photos on social media with the hashtag #WearRedDay.
