Getting naloxone in the hands of high-risk members

When pharmacists reached out to members picking up an opioid prescription to give them information about naloxone, targeting them at the pharmacy proved impactful.

We knew that members with opioid prescriptions weren’t getting enough information about opioid risks. For this study, Prime used its controlled substance (CS) scoring system to identify members at high risk for opioid overdose and death. When targeted members with high CS scores picked up an opioid prescription, a Walgreens pharmacist provided an Opioid Safety Guide. Members who received an Opioid Safety Guide were four times more likely to get a prescription of naloxone within 6-months, than did members who had not received the Safety Guide.
