HISTORY
Prime Therapeutics was created in 1998 through the combination of Pharmacy Gold, Inc. and ProPar Services, Inc. Prior to this combination, Pharmacy Gold provided comprehensive formulary and clinical services, partnering with ProPar Services for claims processing. After years of a successful joint venture relationship, we combined the two organizations into one entity, called Prime Therapeutics.
The establishment of Prime Therapeutics created the first-of-its-kind pharmacy program dedicated to managing the pharmacy benefit as an investment for its clients. By integrating pharmacy into the health care delivery system of our clients, we have removed ourselves from conflicts of interest. The value of this independence should not be underestimated. Prime Therapeutics is free to manage the pharmacy investment to meet the unique financial and clinical objectives of each of our clients.
In 2004, Prime Therapeutics became a limited liability company to allow additional Blue Cross plans to become owners. Today, Prime is owned by 10 Blue Cross and Blue Shield plans.
